Spotify widget is missing: app removes feature from Android home screen | Players

Spotify has removed the app widget from the home screens of Android phones. The change, which came with the update to version 8.5, surprised many users, but had already been announced by the streaming platform last Thursday (8).

In a statement on the support page, Spotify explained that the widget has been replaced by the player "drop down"in the notification bar. To access the controls, simply swipe down while listening to music on the streaming platform. You can also pause and advance tracks on the smartphone lock screen.

"Retiring features on Spotify is something we always take very seriously. We are putting our energy into new ways to create the best experience for our users," says the Spotify note, which did not detail whether there were other reasons for removal.

The news was not well received by users, who argued about the instability of the player in the notifications. They recalled that often, after pausing the music, the controls disappear. The post on the official Spotify page has accumulated over 450 replies by the time this issue is published.

In response, the company said it is "listening" to community reactions and left a link for users to vote for the widget's return. However, even with more than 2,400 votes in favor of returning the appeal, the brand said it "has no plans to reintroduce it."
