In 2008, Ford bought the startup Spin, which focuses on micromobility, being one of the first to offer an authorized service of shared electric scooters in the United States. Now, the company is preparing to enter the European market, arriving in Germany in the second quarter and then in France and the United Kingdom.
Scooters and bicycles shared in Brazil, solution or problem?
According to Ford, Spin is already present in 60 cities and 25 universities in the United States offering electric scooter service to communities with a focus on affordable price.
When this type of mobility product appeared, some companies made scooters and even bicycles available without asking permission from city halls, something that caused headaches for local authorities, resulting in a ban in many cases. Spin, as explained in a note, acts carefully on this issue, asking for permission from the local administration and going through the legal validation processes.
We believe that integration with the community is essential for our long-term success. Therefore, we have local teams to listen to people in the communities, collecting their opinions so that we can offer the best service possible. Last year, we increased the number of cities in which we operate in the USA by 600%. Now, we want to work in partnership with cities and universities across Europe to offer a safe, pleasant and continuous service.Euwyn Poon, co-founder and president of Spin.
