Apple today announced a new member of its line of portable computers. After five years, the MacBook returns to be the flagship of the company's popular notebooks.
With an extremely thin profile, the new computer gains the traditional colors of the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2: space gray, silver and (yes!) Gold. The machine weighs just 910 grams and is 1.3 cm thick on the thickest side (24% thinner than the current MacBook Air).
The keyboard not only horizontally fills the entire length of the notebook to the corners, but it has also been recreated from scratch from a new design process, created through studies on typing effects. Its structure is supported by a piece of stainless steel that is four times more stable, 40% thinner and with keys 17% larger than in previous models.
The glass trackpad, an exclusivity of Apple even in its current generation of notebooks, has gained the same haptic mechanism that makes the Apple Watch interface sensitive to touches of greater pressure. Using four sensors, it makes OS X capable of supporting new gestures in applications.
Apple brought iPad screen technology to make the cover profile thinner, and with it came a 12-inch Retina panel. There are 3.3 million pixels displayed at a resolution of 2304 × 1440. Even with the increase in resolution, it consumes 30% less power than a MacBook Air monitor.
In the construction of this new model, speakers were added on top, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and DisplayPort and HDMI interfaces combined with USB in a new type C connector with adapters, for specific needs. It not only has smaller dimensions, but also supports the passage of electrical current, making it the new Apple interface for charging the internal battery.
Still in hardware, Apple exchanged Intel Core i technology for the new Core M, initially developed for the generic PC market for smaller notebooks with hybrid functionality. With it, Apple created the smallest logic board used in one of its computers, dominating its internal space by batteries – this is the first fanless MacBook. There are only 9 hours of autonomy for web browsing and up to 10 hours for watching videos.
The new MacBook will be on sale from April 10, with two models. For $ 1,300, the entry model features a 1.1GHz processor, 8GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage. Users will also be able to opt for a 1.2GHz processor and 512GB of storage in the top-of-the-line model.
Air and Pro (13 inches) gain improvements
The current MacBooks Air will continue to sell. For them, Apple brought the fifth generation of Core i5 and i7 processors, Thunderbolt 2 and the same PCIe flash storage, used on the iMac and Mac Pro. Prices remain the same, and are available for purchase from today in the States. United.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro also gained updated processors and higher performance storage. However, the big news was the new MacBook's trackpad with haptic sensors. The prices of the models have not changed either.
