Skype Translator: Translation of videoconferences until the end of the year

Yesterday Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella presented at Code Conference an new function for Skype, which should be available by the end of the year. O Skype Translator will enable the translation of video chats.

O Skype Translator is in the testing phase, and by the end of the year will be available to all users. The function allows video conversations between people from around the world in their native language. The service then automatically translates the speech and includes it in a caption below the screen. This is not yet a simultaneous translation, ie only sentence blocks are translated at a time.

In theory this fantastic novelty. The problem, first of all, is the quality of the translation (everyone knows that Google Translate, for example, is far from being a reliable service); Second, the number of languages included, which should not be too large, at least at the beginning.

In any case, this is a big step towards global communication without intermediaries.
