Silently, NVIDIA announces its first 40 nanometer GPUs

Available only to licensed manufacturers (OEMs), the new GeForce G210 and GT 220 are the first from NVIDIA produced under a new 40 nanometer process. The advancement in manufacturing is likely to make them more efficient using less energy for operation, which also reduces their thermal envelope.

GeForce G210

The G210 is the most basic: it brings a core of 589MHz with 512MB of 64-bit memory. It brings three video interfaces for connecting monitors (VGA, DisplayPort and DVI) with software support for DirectX 10.1, OpenGL 3.0 and CUDA parallel computing technology, that is, it also works with OpenCL. In addition, it supports resolutions of up to 2560 × 1600 pixels, indicating the ability to withstand an Apple 30-inch Cinema Display.

The most powerful GT 220: it has a core of 615MHz and 1GB of 128-bit DDR3 memory. In it, the video interfaces are VGA, HDMI and DVI, supporting the same maximum resolution as its smaller sister, as well as the same technologies. Due to its higher performance, it is more suitable for the Mac Pro.

The forecast of launching desktops with these cards is still unknown. Reports from Commercial Times from Taiwan indicate that it will only be available on a large scale from September. In addition, there is no way of knowing whether Apple will adopt both as replacements for the current GT 120 and 130, used in the iMac and Mac Pro.
