Seagate launches the world's thinnest notebook / netbook hard drive

Seagate Technology today announced the launch of Momentus, probably the world's slimmest 2.5-inch hard drive for notebooks / netbooks at just 7mm thick. This makes it approximately 25% smaller than conventional 9.5mm models (some even reach 12mm).

For the market, the news is great, as more compact drives (whether 1.8-inch HDDs or SSDs) make the manufacture of computers very expensive. Momentus also comes with strength in performance and capacity, with 160GB and 250GB models, 8MB cache, 3Gbps Serial ATA interface and 5,400RPM rotation speed.

The Momentus hit the market in January initially only on order, for OEMs, but its price has not yet been disclosed by Seagate.
