Seagate Launches 600GB Hard Drive at 10,000RPM

Seagate today announced the availability of the Savvio 10K.4, a new 2.5-inch hard disk with 600GB capacity and a performance of 10,000 revolutions per minute.

The model is the first to offer two million MTBF hours (Mean Time Between Failures), having been designed for corporations and offering the option of auto-encrypting and / or saving energy automatically when at rest, with a system called PowerChoice.

The drive offered both with a 6Gbps SAS interface (with communication dual-port) and 4Gbps fiber channel. Its cache is not very advantageous, however, having only 16MB.

Seagate has not yet announced prices for the new line, which also includes a smaller version, 450GB, but should do so soon.
