Seagate introduces hybrid HDD / SSD drive for laptops

Those who follow this world have probably already heard some buzz, but the fact that Seagate today officially launched the Momentus XT is a hybrid drive for notebooks, which includes both a traditional 2.5 inch hard disk of 7,200 RPM and a state drive. SLC-based solid with 4GB capacity. Finally, it has a 32MB DDR3 memory for caching.

The SATA II drive evidently comes with special firmware (known as Adaptive Memory) to deal with this mix of technologies: it uses the SSD to optimize performance, promising to be about 80% faster than a conventional 7,200RPM drive.

Intended for advanced notebooks, compact desktops and even external cases (which can exploit the extra band via eSATA or USB 3.0), the Momentus XT will be sold in 250GB, 320GB and 500GB versions with prices below SSDs, starting at US $ 113 . All come with a five-year limited warranty.
