Samsung will demonstrate first “Retina” screen for tablets

In partnership with Nouvoyance, Samsung should demonstrate next week its first screen for tablets with pixel density close to the Retina Display used by Apple, something quite expected since the launch of the iPhone 4 last year. The presentation of the novelty will be one of the company's attractions at SID Display Week 2011, which will be held in Los Angeles between May 15th and 20th.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

The Korean company's new LCD panel for tablets has a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels (WQXGA) at 10.1 inches, reaching 300 dots per inch not the same pixel density as Apple's Retina display, but it also makes it impossible (or almost) that is) the differentiation of pixels by the human eye. Thanks to PenTile technology, Samsung was able to reduce the energy consumption of its product by 40%, even drastically increasing its number of pixels.

For those who want a Retina display on an iPad so badly, this appears to be the best technology we will have on the market for some time. The problem is that Apple should not adopt it as an option for now: in addition to being at war with Samsung in justice, Steve Jobs' engineers show greater preference for the quality of IPS technology (In-Plane Switching), capable of generating better results at multiple viewing angles that have yet to be tested in relation to PenTile.

Until Apple launches an iPad 3, it is likely that its display option will already be available in high resolution, but, just like in the smartphone segment, its competitors will venture with higher resolution screens for their gadgets previously supported by Google, of course. This week, Samsung distributed more than 5,000 Galaxy Tabs to developers of the search giant at I / O 2011 and is expected to release models of it with its new screen by the end of this year.
