Samsung ties Apple with consumer satisfaction with smartphones

From time to time, the ACSI (American Customer Satisfaction Index) surveys the United States consumer satisfaction index for their smartphones. The most recent survey was released this week and brought an important milestone: a tie for the Samsung with Apple, which has led the ranking for the past three years.

ASCI on US smartphone consumer satisfaction

Overall, the satisfaction rate of Americans with their smartphones remains the same as in the previous year, with 79 points out of 100 possible by taking into account the entire universe of devices and consumers surveyed. The survey indicated that people are particularly satisfied with their devices’ text messaging capabilities (85 points), while the battery (78) remains a problem in the overall experience.

Comparing the manufacturers, both Apple and Samsung conquered 81 points – Apple maintained last year’s score, while the South Korean one point up from 2018. As shown in the graph above, the Cupertino giant was the isolated leader of the ranking since 2016, with a draw with the very same Samsung in 2015 (in 2014, the Sammy led the survey for the first time).

In yet another victory for Samsung, the Galaxy Note 9 it was considered the favorite smartphone of the Americans, with 86 points; the iPhones X, 8 Plus and SE achieved note 83, the same index as the Galaxy J7 Prime, Galaxy S8 + and Moto G.

ACSI noted the 17% drop in sales of iPhones in recent months as a sign that a problem may be brewing for Apple: according to the institute, consumers are beginning to notice a loss in the cost / benefit of Apple smartphones, potentially starting to consider options from other brands.

The ACSI survey was conducted with 19,658 smartphone consumers in the USA, chosen at random and interviewed by email, between April 5, 2018 and March 27, 2019. In other words, it is a lot of people. Does Apple have anything to worry about?
