Safari users wake up in trouble due to flaw in the search suggestion system [atualizado: corrigido]

As if the flaw with Twitter links we covered this week wasn’t enough, the Safari both on OS X and iOS it was inoperable today for several users due to its search suggestion system being down.

What happens is that when we type something into the Safari address field, the keywords are sent to an Apple server in real time, which then returns results relevant to what the user is looking for. With that down, a bug causes the browser to crash or quit unexpectedly.

While Apple does not resolve this permanently, the solution will disable the feature.

How to disable search suggestions on Mac

  1. Go to menu Safari Preferences
  2. Select the tab Search.
  3. Disable both the “Include Safari Suggestions” and “Enable Quick Site Search” options.

How to disable search suggestions at iGadgets

  1. Open the Settings.
  2. Go to the Safari area.
  3. In the area Search, at the very top, disable both the “Search Engine Suggestions” and “Safari Suggestions” options.

Another option, on both platforms, is to use Safari's private browsing mode while the problem is not solved (probably remotely).

If everything is working fine for you, there is nothing to worry about. 😉

John Paczkowski, from BuzzFeed News, said that Apple contacted and confirmed that the problem has already been resolved. Those who are still experiencing difficulties should clear their browser caches and / or restart their device.
