As if the flaw with Twitter links we covered this week wasnât enough, the Safari both on OS X and iOS it was inoperable today for several users due to its search suggestion system being down.
What happens is that when we type something into the Safari address field, the keywords are sent to an Apple server in real time, which then returns results relevant to what the user is looking for. With that down, a bug causes the browser to crash or quit unexpectedly.
While Apple does not resolve this permanently, the solution will disable the feature.
How to disable search suggestions on Mac
- Go to menu Safari Preferences
- Select the tab Search.
- Disable both the âInclude Safari Suggestionsâ and âEnable Quick Site Searchâ options.
How to disable search suggestions at iGadgets
- Open the Settings.
- Go to the Safari area.
- In the area Search, at the very top, disable both the âSearch Engine Suggestionsâ and âSafari Suggestionsâ options.

Another option, on both platforms, is to use Safari's private browsing mode while the problem is not solved (probably remotely).
If everything is working fine for you, there is nothing to worry about. đ
