Rumor: wireless charging of the “iPhone 8” could operate at just 7.5W

Rumors about the next iPhones, as it happens every year, there are many. Some, however, are already sort of taken for granted; one of them, this time, a system of wireless recharge (wireless).

The question until a while ago was whether Apple would bring something truly revolutionary to the market, such as a wireless and contactless recharge, or whether it would simply implement in iPhones a system similar to that which has existed for years in competing devices. There is already a certain consensus that it should, unfortunately, follow the second option.

iPhone being rechargedYour days are numbered.

Now, the Japanese site MACBlog says not only that, but Apple should limit the operation of this charging system to just 7.5W.

On the one hand, we are already talking about something 50% higher than what we have today in the original iPhones wall charger. On the other hand, the Qi induction wireless charging standard already supports, in its 1.2 version, up to 15W of power. That is, if this is true Apple would have chosen to operate at half capacity.

Personally, I do not see much sense in these induction charging systems that require placing the smartphone on a base which is obviously connected to the socket with a wire. The practicality gain compared to plugging a cable down there or even putting the iPhone in a minimal dock and you can't even use the device right while it's charging.

In past podcasts I commented that if Apple were to actually follow this path, it should have some good justification for getting to “late” play. And one of them would be the recharge performance, which does not match the rumor brought by the Japanese blog. We hope they are wrong, therefore.
