Rumor: new Macs Pro could be equipped with processors up to 16 cores

According to information obtained just last night by 9 to 5 Mac, a model Mid 2011 of Macs Pro would already be on Apple's systems, ready to be officially launched. The latest rumor about these machines points to their arrival in August.

A reliable source for the vehicle claims to have had access to internal Apple documents about the new generation of Macs Pro, and says the towers will now support up to 16 cores in their processors (two chips octo-core, therefore) what is the name of this, hexadeca-core? Evidently, the Mac Pro with 16 cores would be the new top of the line; inferior models could be customized with 6, 8 or 12 cores such as the current ones.

A Ma executive reportedly said recently in an email obtained by 9 to 5 Mac that Apple continues to “invest heavily in the Mac Pro”. We said that the current iMac’s reign wouldn’t last that long
