Rumor: new MacBooks Pro may also use Samsung's super-fast SSDs

Complementing all recent rumors about the next generation of MacBooks Pro (1, 2, 3, 4), the 9to5Mac said today that Apple has been working with prototypes of the machine running with Samsung's 830 line SSDs.

Samsung 830 SSD

For those who do not remember, these are exactly the models currently used in MacBooks Air, after the Sammy series 470 has been discontinued. Tests indicate that they achieve a performance of up to 400MB / s in writing and 500MB / s in reading much faster than other SSDs also used by Apple, from Toshiba. In this case, Ma does not accept to stay with a supplier only even more being Samsung.

Without anything officially confirmed about the new MBPs, it is still difficult to say for sure which path will be taken by Apple. It can actually replace HDDs with SSDs across the board, continue offering them only as options or even make a hybrid of the two, leaving only the operating system and applications running on the solid state drive, for better performance (especially in boot).

As there is a high probability that laptops will abandon optical drives (R.I.P., SuperDrive) for good, the absence of hard drives would allow an even slimmer design again, just like Airs. We'll see.
