There has long been talk about the possibility of a future Apple Watch come with the ability to measure the individual’s blood glucose levels and thus help immensely diabetes – whose monitoring is an absolutely essential part of monitoring the disease but, with current devices, it still involves a relatively boring process with the famous “prick” on the finger. The last rumor in this sense, even, appeared a month ago.
Now, however, the BGR comes with new information that can put a little more light on what will be this future device with this noble function. According to the website, which cites the infamous “sources close to the subject”, the blood glucose monitoring feature would not be built into the watch box itself, but in the other fundamental part of your body: the bracelet.
The report goes further: apparently, it would be in Apple’s plans to introduce a series of “smart bracelets”, which would add extra functions to the Apple Watch. The blood glucose meter bracelet would be just one of them, and others with the most different functions would be launched – the website mentions the possibility of a bracelet with a camera and another with an extra battery, to extend the – controversial – longevity of the watch.
Personally, I believe that the rumors have every chance of being true, but I see problems with such an approach if it gains the light of reality. Look: introducing specific features that are exclusively linked to a bracelet model, Apple loses the “modular” character that it has always made a point of using in Apple Watch advertising – the whole story of choosing just a case and being able to personalize your watch with the most different combinations of bracelets, all thrown down the sewer.
Of course, some of these functions can be very specific (or even impossible) to apply to the watch case – the ability to monitor blood glucose, for example, may require a larger contact area with the arm, provided only by the bracelet. But I don’t see Tim Cook and his gang changing the sales strategy of their newest product line in such a short time, in the sense of turning to their audience and saying “look, if you want a camera on your Apple Watch, you’ll have to you must wear this bracelet here ”or things like that.
Let’s see what this is all about …
