Rumor: Apple may start using TSMC chips from 2014

If there is a rumor that turns and moves it appears by the partnership between Apple and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

Today the DigiTimes reported that the manufacturer is experiencing difficulties in the production of 28 nanometer chips, delivering less than 70% of the demand of companies such as Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Broadcom, TI and AMD. Therefore, the company would be advancing an investment of US $ 700 million, which would be made only in 2013, for this year, developing in a new production of 20 nanometers. This is exactly where Apple comes in: according to the vehicle, Ma could be behind this investment, negotiating the adoption of these CPUs for 2014.

We know that current Apple processors are manufactured by Samsung, with the A5X (chip which equips the iPad) produced in 45 nanometers and the new A5 single dual-core (which equips the new Apple TV and the new 16GB iPad 2) at 32nm. We also know that Apple has invested heavily in the South Korean plant responsible for these chips, and that such a contract should not be short-term.

It remains to be seen whether TSMC would come in to replace Samsung or to complement it. In any case, the scenario is good for Apple, after all, it is not good to depend on just one supplier for products.
