Rumor: analyst says “iPhone 7 Plus” will have a version with two rear cameras

As everyone knows, both the iPhone 6 Plus and the 6s Plus have a good differential in their rear camera (iSight) compared to the iPhones 6 / 6s: an optical stabilization system. Because, at least according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, in the iPhone 7 the Plus model can distance itself even further from the smaller one.

In April last year Apple acquired LinX Computational Imaging, an Israeli company focused on camera technologies. According to Kuo, the next iPhone will incorporate its technologies and a version of the 5.5-inch model could be equipped with a two-camera system and even a 2-3x optical zoom.

The idea of a dual camera system is that one has a more open lens (wide angle) with optical stabilization and the other is more closed (telephoto). The device's software would then combine the captured images in order to generate a superior quality final.

It is curious that, according to the analyst, Apple would still offer a version of the iPhone 7 Plus with only a rear camera as well. This double system would be reserved for the top-of-the-line model.
