Rumor: 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K screen is expected to launch in late October

That a 21.5-inch iMac with Retina display will be released by Apple at some point, no one doubts. We already know that his screen will have a resolution of 4096 × 2304 pixels (4K, instead of the 5K of the 27 inch model). Today, two new pieces of information – still categorized as rumors, of course – have emerged about this new iMac.

iMac Retina 5K

The first is that, according to sources in the 9to5Mac, Apple plans to launch the machine on end of october. The only thing that was strange about this story is that, in the same article, they also said that the final version of OS X El Capitan should be launched with that new iMac.

Taking into account that we are already in the eighth beta version of the desktop operating system and that it is very round, there is no reason for Apple to hold this release for another two months. Unlike iOS, which is usually released with new iPhones, the final version of a new OS X does not necessarily need to be tied to a Mac release.

But back to the iMac, the second piece of information – released by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via AppleInsider) – is that this new iMac should use Phosphor LED (also known as KSF and which offers better color saturation) in addition to, of course, general improvements in computational / graphic processing.

The 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K screen, of course, would arrive at a higher price than the current ones (with a maximum resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels). Most likely, Apple will continue to market the non-Retina version of iMacs until the prices of the new models are more or less “matched”.
