REVIEW: Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20 +, updated quality and performance in the S line

The Galaxy S20 + is the perfect balance between the other smartphones in the Samsung Galaxy S20 line. Check out our impressions.

You who follow Showmetech know that the line Galaxy S20 gives Samsung arrived in Brazil on the 11th, one month after the world launch. We had the revelation of Galaxy S20, S20 + It's from S20 Ultra, in increasing order of screen, value and technological quality. We test the Galaxy S20 and S20 +, and we tell you about the main differences between the three products launched now in 2020.

Galaxy S20 and S20 + highlights

As expected, the S20 + similar to S20, differing by size, camera and, of course, price. The devices come equipped with the processor Exynos 990, 8 GB of RAM memory and internal storage of 128 GB, with expansion of up to 1TB through microSD memory card. They come with the Android 10 and the spoken OneUI 2, the “even smarter”From Samsung.

As in the latest models of the line Galaxy, the fingerprint sensor is under the screen. However, a major change from the other smartphones in the Samsung was the elimination of the entry of Earphone. Gone are the days that Samsung played with Apple for having eliminated the 3.5 mm entry of its products, since the iPhone 7. Other than that, with only the USB-C connection remaining, the design remains similar to other devices in the line Galaxy.

S20 vs. S20 +

it is inevitable to compare the models of the line Galaxy S20 to each other, after all the specifications are similar between models. As expected, the S20 + ends up being the perfect middle ground between the frugal S20 and the powerful S20 Ultra.

Next, we will point out the main differences between the S20 + it's the S20, which are the closest models in price, for a difference of R $ 500.

Camera

The specifications of the camera are the same in both devices: the front camera is 10 MP and the rear are 12 MP (wide-angle, ultra-wide) and 64 MP (telephoto). Telephoto can take pictures in 8K, the rest of them in 4K, making recordings in HDR10 +. The camera set has a 3x optical zoom, which combined with a 10x digital zoom achieves magnifications of up to 30x.

When looking from outside the devices, it is easy to know the main difference, and you don’t even have to look trained to find it: o S20 + has a larger camera module, with an additional sensor. The additional lens S20 + the sensor DepthVision, of the type ToF (Time of Flight), responsible for understanding the distance between the device and the object in focus.

The technology DepthVision responsible for determining the focus correct in your photos, bringing a better quality result. For videos, it significantly improves the autofocus in real time, ensuring that your recordings maintain the focus positioned on the subject of the scene, obtaining a better blur of the background. Its lens also serves to recognize the environment in augmented reality and at scan objects, using Samsung apps. In theory, this lens also helps to capture more light when taking pictures at night.

Screen

When talking about smartphones, we agree that there is a thin line between a exaggerated screen and a smaller screen, which facilitates the task of making it portable. The balance can be quite complicated, especially for someone like Samsung that annually launches its line that has been the reference in the Android world for years. Successfully, in the S20 they did not make a mistake.

The screen occupies almost completely the front of the device, with minimal borders and only one cutout at the top for the camera. When dealing with numbers, the S20 has a 6.2 inch screen and the S20 + slightly larger, with 6.7 inches. Another important data he supports refresh rate in 120 Hz (times the screen updates per second). Naturally, the S20 line follows the 60Hz standard as does the iPhone X.

Owning others Galaxy (and Samsung products over time), I can safely say that the generation gap in the Galaxy line is quite noticeable if we compare only the screens. They are simple things, like the practicality of taking / putting in your pocket and even how far your thumb should stretch until it reaches the opposite end of the screen.

The screen size of the S20 + identical to the model A70 and slightly smaller than the Note 10+ (which is 6.8 ″). Thus, it is comfortable to the point that you can hold it with two hands, but manipulation with one hand can be somewhat difficult for smaller hands, for example. For games and watching videos horizontally, it fits like a glove. J o S20 those devices that are comfortable to handle with just one hand, maintaining good image quality.

The refresh rate of the screen is also something that weighs on the battery, and it's not just the time it stays on. For more than 120 Hz make it a gameplay smoother, you need to balance this at the cost of about one hour less battery, in the case of this smartphone. Useful if you want a unique experience, however, expendable if your priority is battery life.

The three biggest flashes of Samsung technologies battery chargers are also present in the devices, being: Super Fast charging (fast battery charging), Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 (wireless fast charging) and Wireless PowerShare (battery sharing, which works with other smartphones or wearables that support charging without thread). It was just a slight evolution or replication of what we already had in the S10.

Battery capacity 4,000 mAh at the S20 and 4,500 mAh at the S20 +, what an advance compared to the 4100mAh of the S10 +. In routine, something that can go unnoticed if you are used to a recent smartphone. The relationship between consumption and usage variations usually varies considerably.

If you usually watch series or videos at home (or on public transport, all of a sudden) using your smartphone as your main form of entertainment, we say that S20 it's the S20 + will not let you down, even with refresh rate 120 Hz. They are more or less six hours total screen switched on at the highest rate and about 7 and a half hours at 60 Hz. Of course, games, wireless connections or other heavy tasks that depend more on performance will also end up pulling the battery and the “connected screen” is just another pillar in this account.

And the Galaxy S20 Ultra?

on the back of the S20 Ultra that stands out the biggest difference between the devices of the line: its set of cameras. O "Space Zoom 100X”Stamped on the bottom of the giant module already gives a loophole of what it means: the wide angle can take photos in absurd 108 MP, which combined with the 10x optical zoom, makes it possible to zoom in real time up to 100 times. The 40 MP front camera has 4x higher resolution than the other models in the line, and is even better than many main input device cameras.

The screen S20 Ultra 6.9 ”, 5 mm higher than the S20 +, and also more robust, weighing 220g (while the S20 + weighs 186g). The difference is notable, trust. The battery also makes a proportional jump, being 5000mAh (4500 mAh on the S20 + and 4000 mAh on the S20).

Over here, it is being sold in Cosmic gray (gray) in 128 GB version per R $ 7,999 and, exclusively in the color Cosmic black, 512 GB version going out for nothing less R $ 8,499. If the little modest differences between memory, screen and cameras justify the jump of R $ 2,500 for you, just run for the hug.

Completed

In this new line Galaxy S20, a Samsung it did not disappoint when talking about quality and competitive advantages. Keeping the high standard, which still remains as a reference of Android smartphone, the S20 it's the S20 + combine the best of this new generation of 2020 products without the need for external accessories or a folding screen.

Both are robust, have a durable battery, excellent quality screen (and fluidity) and above average camera. Who already has a Galaxy, can imagine with the quality that we are dealing with. Those who don't have it are worth trying out this experience of the best interface and OS on the market.

The criterion for choosing between one model or another, above the difference in size, will certainly be the set of cameras. If you are a normal user, like the quality of the photos, but do not produce content, choose the S20. But if you produce content, and video quality is fundamental, better to keep the S20 +.

The devices can be found on the Samsung website in the colors Cloud Blue (blue), Cosmic Black (black) or Cosmic Gray (gray). O Samsung Galaxy S20 sold by R $ 5,499, while the Samsung Galaxy S20 + sold by R $ 5,999.
