SSDs in format M.2 NVMe they have become the darlings of storage on PCs and notebooks, and the market is heating up because, what was once a luxury item, can now be purchased for much more affordable prices. Kingston is one of the manufacturers that intends to further democratize SSDs M.2 NVMe with input series A2000.

Available in three models (250GB, 500GB and 1TB), the Kingston A2000 was first presented during the CES 2019, but arrived in Brazil only in August costing from R $ 360. Its main differentials are 3D NAND technology, interesting reading and writing speeds and security features such as encryption, support for different software and a 5-year warranty.

Before we go to the results of the Kinsgton A2000, let's get to know its specifications and main technologies:

Connections and technology

O Kingston A2000 comes in format M.2 and interface NVMe PCI Express 3.0. The format is considerably faster than the traditional Sata, and also offers more performance in a smaller and longer product, which is ideal for notebooks. Combined with the interface NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express, or “non-volatile expressed memory), the A2000 It is capable of both increasing read and download rates, as well as decreasing access times, such as system startup, game loading, etc.

In addition, the SSD brings technology 3D NAND, an integrated circuit architecture that elevates data storage on the SSD. With a unilateral format, updating almost any M.2-based system is a simple task.

Security

Regarding security, the Kingston A2000 it goes very well if you have important data and want to update your work computer, for example. The SSD supports encryption by standard 256-bit XTS-AES hardware. With this, you can password protect your data at all times without loss of performance.

Other security features, in addition to 256-bit AES encryption, include a pseudo-SLC write cache, which absorbs incoming recordings, TRIM support, SMART data reporting and the ability to securely erase data to ensure that there are none. fragment of information after restoration (ideal for when to sell).

Software and accessories

O Kingston A2000 no additional accessories are included in the box, but the manufacturer offers software called Kingston Manager SSD, where it is possible to manage temperature, update the firmware,

Performance

During our tests, the Kingston A2000 he behaved very well in everyday applications. Transferring and reading files, booting the system and loading games have had considerably reduced times with the SSD.

The model we tested, with 1TB of storage, has a maximum rate of 2,200MB / s of reading / writing sequentially, which in itself is excellent for slightly more demanding tasks, such as rendering, transferring large amounts of data, etc. On a daily basis, it reached around 1,500MB / s in reading files, not having such a big difference in relation to the Intel 660p, which reaches an average of 1,260MB / s. On an intermediate machine, for example, with a processor Intel Core i5 eighth generation and 8GB RAM, performance has improved significantly in all applications.

In games, the Kingston A2000 influenced the performance of most tested games. Overwatch and Fortnite they loaded their textures much faster, and some tagging problems caused by loading the scenarios were partially solved. In both cases, there was a slight decrease in the work of the video card, but nothing so impressive.

Check out the benchmark made with Kingston A2000.

Benchmark tests

Game load time

First Kingston A2000 benchmark test

Final Fantasy XIV StormBlood Benchmark a benchmark that simulates loading the game more accurately. In this case, the Kingston A2000 had a slight advantage over the Intel SSD 760p, beating 18.90 seconds. The Intel SSD 660p is at last. Here, we see the great superiority of A2000, beating premium SSDs like Samsung 970 Pro.

File transfer – Diskbench

For this test, we selected the tool Diskbench to test the transfer of files on 50GB of data, which includes photos, videos and documents. He obtained an average of 400 to 500MB / s. Regarding the compared models, it stands out, but its speed is not impressive if we compare it with some SSDs equivalent to it, like the WD Black SN750 1TB. However, its speed is undeniable almost three times faster than a Sata SSD, for example.

Is it worth buying the Kingston A2000 SSD?

The answer depends. O Kingston A2000 one of the best SSDs M.2 NMVe intermediaries / market entry and, placing it side by side with its main competitor, the Intel 660p, offers much more speed and security.

However, if during the benchmarks the superiority of Kingston A2000 it was expressive, on a daily basis the user who only wants an SSD to start his applications faster will not feel much difference, and this ends up being reflected in the price. Here in Brazil, the SSD of Kingston, of 1TB, is leaving for R $ 1,369.50 on the official website of the manufacturer, while the model of Intel it can already be found for almost half the price – R $ 872.90.

Now, if you can and want to spend on a quality SSD, extremely fast for its category, interesting security technologies and a 5 year warranty, the Kingston A2000 it may even be the best option for you.
