REVIEW: HyperX ChargePlay Base Dual Wireless Charger

The HyperX ChargePlay Base capable of charging up to two devices wirelessly at the same time

Wireless device charging is becoming an increasingly common way to recharge the battery. Usually the charging bases that we find on the market are simple parts that allow you to charge a single device at a time. Now, the HyperX launched a wireless charging base, the HyperX ChargePlay Base, which provides space for charging two devices at the same time, certified with Qi wireless charging technology and still offering high quality performance.

Design

Don't be surprised if looking at the HyperX ChargePlay Base you will not find anything that stands out in its design. Oval in shape, the base itself is about 20 cm wide by 30 cm long. It is about 3/4 inch high due to a central crest with charging status LED strips on both sides. At the base is the blank HyperX logo. At the reverse edge of the crest is the charging logo Qi. The USB Type-C port is just below this second logo.

HyperX ChargePlay Base design The HyperX ChargePlay Base has a simple yet elegant design

On both sides of the loading base there are a pair of non-slip handles around a dotted circle, which indicates the area of the loading platform. When passing over the loading platform, you will see two non-slip handles on the sides, in a semicircular shape.

The USB Type-C to USB-A cable is quite long, just over 1.8 meters long. It adheres to the traditional rubberized finish and a braided cable would have been a good finish and touch.

Usability

The use of HyperX ChargePlay Base very simple. Simply plug the USB Type-C end of the cable into the base and the other USB-A end to the AC adapter. Plug the AC adapter into an outlet and you are ready to use the charging cradle.

ChargePlay Base ChargePlay Base charges up to two devices simultaneously, but maximum performance is achieved by charging only one

The charging status LED on the strips on both sides of the base crest indicates the charging status. If the red LED is off, the panel on that side is not carrying anything. When the red LED is lit, the base on that side is charging the device placed on it. If the LED flashes, an error occurs. However, it can be corrected easily by removing and placing the device on the base again.

Performance

In terms of performance, the base performs optimally when charging two devices at the same time. In several tests carried out with the HyperX ChargePlay Base the following devices were used: Google Pixel 4 XL, iPhone 11 Pro Max and Apple Airpods Pro, all of which are compatible with Qi wireless charging technology.

To our surprise, all the devices charged very well during the time they were in the base, taking an average of 2 hours to obtain a full charge and charging about 7% of battery every 10 minutes.

Devices loading on the base During testing, devices charged in a few hours

While the charging base supports 15W of wireless charging, it is limited to 10W per pad. If you are charging a device compatible with Qi charging technology, you should receive 10W of charge. If you are charging two at the same time, you will only receive 15W in the combined total between the two.

Positioning is also critical, and you may initially need to test different positions with the device to make a proper connection between the loading platform and the device. That is, depending on how you place your device on the pad, it may receive more or less energy to charge. It is most recommended to try to place it completely on the surface of the pad for a better use.

Price

For now, the HyperX ChargePlay only sold in the United States for $ 49.99. However, considering that you can charge up to two devices at the same time, this is not a very high value. In addition, it is a well-built item and looks nice and solid, unlike other charging bases Qi Certified available on the market.
