According to the Deadline website, the Resident Evil franchise will have a TV series. Netflix is responsible for the project in partnership with Constantin Film, the studio responsible for the six Resident Evil films that ended the saga in 2016, with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. The release, according to the information provided, will be global and have scripts based on the horror and action franchise.
Netflix and Constantin Film are looking for a showrunner to guide the adaptation of the work
At the moment, Netflix and the studio responsible for the series are looking for a showrunner to guide the adaptation of the work. However, the stadium has already said it aims to create a series that will explore the inner workings of Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus, in addition to delving into existing mythology, expanding the universe of Resident Evil (RE ). The project is still in its initial stages, but there is an expectation that the series will incorporate elements that represent the signature of RE as action scenes and "easter eggs".
The films in the RE franchise, developed by Constantin, originally appeared in 2002 and have accumulated a total of six titles. Altogether, revenue of US $ 1.2 billion was generated worldwide, making it the highest grossing game-based film of all time.
Last month, the studio hired Johannes Roberts to write and direct resources for the return of Resident Evil to the screens (with a new cast).
It is a fact that the films produced by the Constantin stadium, for the most part, were not well received by most Resident Evil fans. It remains to be seen whether this time the production company will honor the original work.
