PUC-Rio teachers and students create iOS development videos in Portuguese

The world of video classes and tutorials on the Internet related to the universe of iOS development is extremely vast, but presents an extra challenge for Brazilian developers (or enthusiasts) who do not have a good affinity with other languages. If you do not have English fully sharpened on the tip of your tongue, it will be very difficult to take advantage of much of this content available on the network.

Fortunately, some professionals and students from the area have made efforts to bring these contents to the Portuguese language and, in this field, students and teachers of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro have scored ten: they are responsible for a channel on YouTube that brings a series of in-depth video lessons on a series of aspects of the art of developing for Apple's mobile operating system.

DEV PUC-Rio YouTube Channel

The project started at the end of 2016, when Professor Andrew Costa, from the Training Program for iOS Development at the Technical-Scientific Center of PUC-Rio, realized that his students were earning a lot more by studying through video tutorials produced by him, totally in portuguese since almost all the existing content for study was available only in english. From there, the teacher challenged the students to repeat their initiative, creating their own video classes on the most varied themes of the iOS universe.

The result is: so far, videos on topics like CloudKit, Core Animation, TestFlight, HomeKit, Swift and more are already on the channel; the expectation is that this number will grow over time and that, with the recognition of the initiative, more students and volunteers will participate in the project by sending their own video lessons for general consumption.

In addition to the YouTube channel, students and teachers also created the DEV PUC-Rio, an application for Apple TV which allows the user to easily find the video lessons, organized by theme and with a search field, and watch everything directly from the big screen without having to enter the environment highly distracting and somewhat confusing from the YouTube app.

Congratulations to everyone for the initiative and keep up the great work, guys! 🙂
