Yesterday, Cariocas received a service for consulting routes by bus, train and subway: Google Public Transport. In São Paulo and Belo Horizonte the service has been in existence for 9 months, just access Google Maps to check it out. Rio de Janeiro has a differential because it is the first country to offer the full service, covering the entire metropolitan region.
In Rio there are 915 bus lines and 7790 points, more than 40 thousand kilometers long, not to mention the train and subway lines with more than 150 stations.
The Mountain View company says that the idea is that the number of bus lines registered with “Google Public Transport” will double by the beginning of next year, thus bringing more accessibility to tourists.
This new service increasingly helps the Marvelous City count points to host the 2016 Olympics, even because the main competitors do not have the service in their cities.
Google Public Transport in Rio de Janeiro was made possible by partnerships with the State Department of Transportation and the concessionaires MetrôRio, Supervia and Fetranspor.
We look forward to Google Street View to complete the cycle.
