President sanctions provisional measure 668, which increases taxes for imported products

A month ago we reported that deputies approved the basic text and the Senate approved the provisional measure 668, which raises taxes on imported products which obviously includes Macs, iPods, iPhones and iPads. Then, the presidential health was missing. Because as reported by Folha de So Paulo, nothing else is missing.

Last Monday (22/6), President Dilma Rousseff sanctioned the MP, which was already published in an extra edition of the Official Directory of the Union as Law 13.137, which increases the PIS / Cofins tax rate (from 9.25 % to 11.75%) not only about imported products, but also about drinks, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. The measure is part of the fiscal adjustment launched by the government to try to rebalance public accounts with the expectation of raising more than R $ 1 billion a year with the changes.

The approved text guarantees the amnesty of fines imposed by the Federal Revenue to evangelical churches (something that can reach R $ 200 million) and frees the National Congress to make public-private partnerships (PPP) for the construction of a shopping center within the Congress (formerly dream of Eduardo Cunha, president of the Chamber).

However, the president vetoed some points such as one that created a debt refinancing program for companies that are in bankruptcy, another that would bring benefits to banks that bought financial institutions holding FCVS (Salary for Compensation for Variations in Salaries) titles and more one that increased the number of municipalities benefited by the incentives granted by Sudene (Superintendency for Development of the Northeast).

The increase in PIS / Cofins on imported products will take effect three months from now. That is, do not be surprised if the prices of Macs, iPods, iPhones, iPads and even accessories are readjusted again.
