According to Veja, Apple plans to announce its first plant in Brazil soon as a way to prevent Brazilian manufacturer Positivo Informtica from closing supply contracts with the federal government.
"Positivo is preparing to launch a tablet with Android system for the middle of the year and Apple wants to arrive earlier," said the source to the VEJA website. "The American giant should arrive through the Chinese manufacturer Foxconn, which already has three factories in Brazil".
The magazine also found that Apple has been studying the Brazilian tax system to assess whether the installation of the new plant would pay off as an alternative option to importing products from Asia.
If the information is really true, Geraldo Alckmin, governor of the state of So Paulo, should announce the installation of the tablet factory in 15 days.
