Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth presents proposals to stay active at home

Regardless of the size of the houses, with or without a garden, during the isolation of the coronavirus it must remain physically active. What is sometimes missing are tips and ideas on how to perform active and fun tasks with the youngest. In this sense, the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ) and the Ministry of Education leave recommendations and content on the topic on their social networks and websites under the motto #serativoemcasa.

The campaign coincided with the renewal of the IPDJ website at the end of last week, presenting the information in a more accessible, intuitive and interactive way. At Beactive Portugal you can also find different videos with exercise tips that parents and children can do together while playing, for example using chairs or the living room sofa as tools for practicing domestic sports.

The IPDJ's exercise proposals are segmented by age groups, 0-5 years old, 6-17, 18-64 and for people over 65 years old. The videos are also divided into two audiences: for young people and children, and another for adults and the elderly, whether they are active or with some kind of limitation, with themes suggested by the Faculty of Human Motricity at the University of Lisbon.

Families are being encouraged to produce and share their own videos, based on a list of suggestions, in order to encourage other people to move.

Also within the activities carried out in isolation, the Ministry of Education has also supported physical education teachers with resources, framed in distance education on the FitEscola website. Teachers and students will find materials related to fitness, physical activities, sedentary behaviors, the importance of hydration, nutrition care, among other topics of relevance to health and well-being.
