The subscription for the new service must be made through the Portugal Tolls portal, developed by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP). For the Portuguese government, this solution "simplifies the service provided to visitors, by land, from the country", by allowing the subscription to Easytoll to be made online, including through mobile devices.
In a statement, the secretary of state for tourism Rita Marques considers this to be an "important measure", given the problems of the system. IP State Secretary Jorge Gelado guarantees that "putting new technologies and the new digital world at the service of people is a constant objective" of the organization. Developed in 2012, the Easytoll system is a valid automatic payment solution for vehicles with foreign registration on highways with exclusively electronic toll collection systems.
