Plex Cloud Service to be discontinued by end of November

Whenever I write about the PlexI can only see how little recognized it is for such a good tool for organizing your own multimedia content library (and offering access to it on virtually any device). Well, unfortunately not everything is just flowers, and sometimes important platform features don't get the trait needed to succeed. the case of Plex Cloud.

For those who don't remember (we talked about their arrival about a year and a half ago), Plex Cloud is a platform tool available to all subscribers of the $ 5 Plex Pass paid plan that would have no need for a running computer. as a server, allowing you to simply move your entire library to a cloud service and access your movies, shows, music, photos, and the like from anywhere without having to have a perpetually connected and internet-connected machine.

Unfortunately, however, the feature is being discontinued and will definitely be closed on day one. 30th of November, as Plex's development team announced in its official forums. In fact, the news was already somewhat expected: in February, the service no longer accepted the addition of new remote servers to the Plex Cloud, a clear indication that the feature was not in the best of states; Various technical problems have been encountered by users since then.

The justification for the closure is that, according to the developers, it was not possible to find a way to balance the reasonable performance of the resource with the maintenance of its operating costs, so instead of lowering the (high) standard by which the Plex is known, it was “hard decision” to pull the Plex Cloud outlet.

In practice, as of November 30, Plex Cloud users will no longer be able to access their remote servers; developers ask users to transfer their media files to Plex Media Server on a computer or NAS (Network-Attached Storage). Your files on cloud services will of course remain intact Plex, after all, has no influence on data from Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and you can only move or delete them from there.

Anyway, a pity.
