SteamOS is not the only game-oriented Linux distribution out there, there is a system called Play Linux that also has this proposal, to be a Linux system for gamers.

Play Linux

Play Linux is a distribution / remastering derived from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS that carries the modified Cinnamon graphical environment called Nebula Desktop.

It basically comes with lean and useful software to play on Linux such as Steam, PlayOnLinux, Wine and Winetricks, Firefox browser, Skype and support for Nvidia and AMD drivers.

Play Linux The system also has a mechanism for easily setting a color-matching desktop theme, as well as three different icon themes that include the Numix, Moka and Faba.

I still could not test the system, but soon we will have news, if you tested or will test, tell us through the comments what were your experiences with it.

Honestly I do not believe in performance miracles compared to any other version of Ubuntu that carries the same kernel and same version of video drivers, perhaps the biggest fluctuation may be due to RAM consumption, but this does not directly influence the amount of game boards if you had a good amount, like 8 GB.
