Research by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster indicates that sales of Macs and iPods will beat analysts' expectations for this quarter.

According to the NPD Group, Mac sales in October in the United States rose 7%. The general estimate of a growth of 14% year after year in the quarter, however it is already known that sales are pumping in the months of November and, mainly, December.

Considering the new Macs recently launched by Apple, this forecast becomes even more positive. Wall Street expects this three-month period to represent sales of 2.85 million Macs.

In October, according to the same source, iPod sales were down 11%. This already corresponds to Munster's expectation that this quarter will mark an annual drop of 12% in Ma's PMPs. Still, once again the analyst notes that, in the past, more than half (!) Of iPod sales occurred only in the December month.

"We believe that the number of iPods sold will be slightly higher than what the NPD estimates," said Munster. According to him, there will be 20 million PMPs sold in total.

Piper Jaffray maintains its ranking Overweight for Apple shares (AAPL), with a target price of $ 277.
