Based on the latest data released by the NPD Group (which operates only in the United States, remember), analyst Gene Munster, of Piper Jaffray, announced today that maintaining the rating “above average” (Overweight) for Apple's shares, stating that Mac sales grew 2% in July compared to last year.

According to him, Ma will sell 2.7 to 2.8 million Macs in the current quarter. Still, he notes that it is quite early to estimate this final figure, since in September sales tend to rise significantly with the return to classes in the northern hemisphere. Until then, he estimates that the number could rise from 3% to 7%.

On the other hand, iPod performance will continue to decline, reaching up to -17% year after year. Munster estimates a total of 9.5 to 10.5 million gadgets sold in the quarter, but the number could also be positively affected by students. IPod sales are forecast to fall between 5% and 14% in the period.

Munster comments that Apple's international representation is growing more than that of the USA, which is why the average of variation ends up being different in global performance forecasts.
