Other World Computing presented last week, during the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, the OWC Media Center Solution a package for owners of the latest mini Macs that aims to transform the machine into a complete residential media center.
The solution includes the Plex digital media management platform, the HandBrake and MakeMKV software, an upgrade to 4GB of RAM and all the necessary hardware including an OWC Mercury Pro Qx2 for RAID storage (4TB, 8TB or even 12TB), a recorder OWC Slim portable CD / DVD / Blu-ray disc, the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid or HD DVR tuner and an Apple Remote.
All of this will come at a price, of course. Although the OWC has not released official figures yet, only the basic components cost $ 700 and that includes neither the Mac mini nor its television.
