Yesterday, at the end of the day, Sonaecom presented the financial results for the first quarter of the year, where it registered net results of 8.2 million euros and an EBITDA of 47.9 million euros, an increase of 5.6% compared to the values of the same period.
The telecommunications holding company of the Sonae group had recorded approximately 200 thousand euros of net results in the first quarter of 2009, now marking a significant increase in this indicator, despite the drop of 7.5% in consolidated revenues, which dropped to 22, 8 million euros.
The operational efficiency effort, with cost control measures implemented between January and March 2010, contributed to the improvement in EBITDA.
Ângelo Paupério, CEO of Sonaecom, highlights the performance of the holding company and the positive contribution of recurring revenues from Optimus’ mobile business and revenues from Information Systems services.
The number of mobile service customers increased by 7.1% in this period, reaching 3.45 million and data revenues already represent 29.6% of revenues from this business. The number of postpaid customers also increased in these three months, already representing around 32% of the subscriber base.
In the fixed network area, the company continues to lose customers, dropping to 464 thousand in direct and indirect access. The total sales of this unit decreased by 5.3%, reaching 60.9 million euros.
The information systems business, driven mainly by WeDo Technologies, also had a positive impact on the results of the holding. This company strengthened its international presence with the opening of three new offices in Singapore, Chile and Panama and increased business revenues across borders by 15%.
The impact of the conjuncture was felt, however, in the global revenues from information systems, which fell by 18.8% to 32.4 million euros, which Sonaecom guarantees to be motivated exclusively by the reduction of equipment sales since the service revenues remained at the level of the same period last year.
Sonaecom’s SSI area aggregates the businesses of WeDo Technologies but also of Bizdirect, Mainroad and Saphety, having recorded a positive contribution to Sonaecom’s consolidated EBITDA of 1.6 million euros overall.
