OnePlus is "all in" 5G with the new flagship OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro

As usual, many of the new features were revealed even before the launch, at a time when the Chinese brand continues to attract many fans. The online broadcast of the event started at 4 pm and SAPO TEK is following everything live.

This time there are no queues at the door, neither audience nor doors that open, but this is a model that is already beginning to become normal with the restrictions imposed by COVID-19. But Ryan Fenwick, responsible for the OnePlus communication area, guaranteed that the company would not pretend to have a full auditorium, not least because it knows how to do well to involve the community and therefore has fans in front of the screen.

The achievements of the company, which is only 6 years old, but which already has many milestones to mark, including the launch of the first 5G models on the first networks in the United Kingdom, as well as the partnership with T-Mobile in the United States.

"OnePlus is 'all in' on 5G and today brings proof of that with the launch of OnePlus 8," he said. The OnePlus 8 Pro is the most powerful smartphone of the brand and at the same time "beautiful to behold", says Ryan Fenwick, who recalls the connection we have with smartphones and "the feeling of memory" that brings our hands, in a bet on the velvety touch .

To show that it listened to users' requests, OnePlus guarantees on the OnePlus 8 Pro the certification of the smartphone with IP68, but also the "best screen in the universe", with refresh rate of 120 Hz, 3168×1440 QHD +. And to have the best experience, OnePlus adds a "touch" of software that makes videos even more fluid.

The camera is the next asset of OnePlus, with the largest sensor already integrated in a model of the brand, and the first combination quad camera. The main sensor of the OnePlus 8 Pro is an Ultra Wide with 48 MP, and there is a telephoto with 30x digital zoom. For video count on a combination of OIE and EIS, but also improvements in audio capture.

Inside is the Snapdragon 865 processor, RAM up to 12 GB, UFS 3.0 and support for Wi-Fi 6. But for those who like to play the OnePlus added haptic vibration 2.0 and Dolby Atmos stereo speakers.

Ryan Fenwick also highlights the 4510 mAh battery with Warp Charge 30T charging mode and the possibility of fast wireless charging.

The Oxygen OS software has also been optimized, with more than 200 changes and improvements to Dark Mode. And the public relations officer of the Chinese company also shows that he has good relations with the North American technological world: an agreement with Google and Amazon gives access to more space in the North American company's cloud and also more direct integration with the Alexa.

The "base" model of the OnePlus 8 more compact for those who want a small smartphone, but without sacrificing performance and design. "Users want everything and deserve everything," he says. The 6.55-inch screen manages to be thinner than the various models of the iPhone 11, with 8mm, and with rounded corners. And it weighs 180 grams, making it one of the lightest top-of-the-range products on the market.

The most modest camera system, with three cameras, 4K video and OIS and EIS stabilization, but less megapixels in total sensors.

The processor also has the Snapdragon 865, with a 4,300 mAh battery and the same fast charging capacity as Warp Charge 30T, but without wireless charging.

"Our mission is to bring 5G to more people," says Ryan Fenwick, announcing that the two models support the new generation of mobile networks and giving the floor to Pete Lau, founder and CEO of OnePlus, who announced that the brand will join the network from Verizon, the North American operator, with a model customized for the company.

What we already know about the new OnePlus 8

In the last week new images revealed the color schemes in which the equipment will reach the market and, apparently, Chinese technology will choose to follow the trend of gradient schemes with bright colors.

The names of the revealed versions are Interstellar Glow, Glacial Green and Onyx Black. It is certain that both the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro will reach the market in all these versions, so some of these should be exclusive to the most robust edition.

Older rumors have already come up with an alleged list of specifications for these devices. According to them, the OnePlus 8 Pro will have a 6.78 inch QHD + display, with 120Hz refresh rate, LPDDR5 RAM, four cameras (rear + rear one), IP68 certified water and dust resistance, 4,510 mAh battery and support for 30w wireless charging.

The standard version will have a 6.55-inch FHD + screen, with a 90Hz refresh rate, three cameras (two rear + one front), LPDDRX RAM, 4,300mAh battery and, unlike the Pro version, should not support charging without wires or water and dust resistance certificates. Apparently, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G should be the processor of both models.
