‘OK Google’ command comes to Google Chrome

After appearing on Chrome OS, Android and iOS, Google Chrome users can now install a free extension that allows them to search using their voice only.

After installation, just say «OK Google» to activate the voice input mode and speak your search terms, without the need to click on the microphone within the search field.

«Chrome will hear you say ‘Ok Google’ and then send the sound of the next thing you say to Google,» says the company. By default, Google stops listening after 5 minutes to reduce battery consumption on a laptop.

For those concerned with privacy, Google informs that it only sends the recording to its servers after the command ‘Ok Google’. The keyword detection works offline and its analysis is done all locally on the user’s computer.
