Offline maps in Google Maps for Android

Google has made available a new version of the Google Maps application for Androd that finally offers users the possibility to save the region of a map for offline use.

"Now you can save up to six major metropolitan areas (for example, London, Paris or New York) and use Google Maps for Android to find your way," posted Jiabei Lei, Software Engineer at Google.

The new resource is available for more than 150 countries and works from the option “make it available offline” which can be accessed within the main menu of the application.

“Below the map, you will see an estimate of the file size and how much space it will consume on your device. After confirming the selection, Maps will immediately start the download ”.
