Considered “critical” by NVIDIA, updates released for its Quadro FX 4800 and GeForce GTX 285 cards are recommended for all Mac Pro users with one installed. According to the company, maintenance compatibility with the kernel Mac OS X, as well as other general compatibility fixes.
The GTX 285 completed a month on the market today and can even be installed on the 2008 model of Apple's professional desktop. According to a comparison made between the previous and current versions of the driver, it can offer a 20% increase in GPU performance in games.
The Quadro FX 4800 is now offered in the Apple Store Online for the Mac Pro 2009, as an option in custom configurations. In both cases, NVIDIA recommends that updates be made as soon as possible (before Mac OS X 10.5.8), probably to avoid problems with the internal fixes promised for it.
