NVIDIA, Amazon and Sony cancel participation in MWC2020 due to Coronavirus

Fears of contagion with the Coronavirus again dictated the cancellation of the presence of two more technologies at the Mobile World Conference 2020, the great technology fair that takes place in Barcelona between the 24th and 27th of February. After LG and Ericsson, now the turn of NVIDIA, Amazon and Sony announce that they will not be at the event organized by the GSMA.

NVIDIA was the first American company to cancel its presence. The technological giant was one of the sponsors of the MWC2020, having partnered with the GSMA to hold 10 debates on artificial intelligence. The company was also preparing to "welcome" visitors with the AI Edge Innovation Center exhibition.

Due to public health risks related to Coronavirus, ensuring the safety of our colleagues, partners and customers is our top priority, advances NVIDIA in a post on its blog. The company indicates that it was prepared to let the world know about the work it has been doing in areas such as AI or 5G and, although it regrets its absence in the MWC2020, it believes that this will be the most correct decision.

The second North American giant to announce that it would not be present at the MWC2020 due to fears of contagion with the Coronavirus was Amazon. The company led by Jeff Bezos announced, in a statement sent to the international press, that the outbreak led it to consider its participation in the event.

In a press release, Sony indicates that it has been monitoring "the evolving situation after the new outbreak of coronavirus" and, to ensure the safety and well-being of its patients, partners and employees, it has taken the "difficult decision to stop exhibit and participate in MWC 2020 ". The company advances that its press conference will take place in a more "secure" location via video, at the scheduled time for 8:30 am (CET) on February 24, 2020, through the official Xperia channel on YouTube.
