NPD: Mac sales grew 20% in January; should reach 3.6 million in the current quarter

Investors expect Macs to grow 22% year-over-year in the current quarter, reaching 3.6 million units. The difference can be offset by Apple's performance outside the US, which has been superior in recent times.

The NPD also released figures on iPod sales, revealing a 10% drop in the same period. The expectation is that they will total between 9.8 and 10.3 million units in the quarter ending in March.

The prospects for the Mac could not be better, in the face of rumors of MacBooks Pro filled with news and even a new line of iMacs.
