NPD DisplaySearch: Apple maintained world leadership in the portable PC segment in Q1 2012

Repeating the feat released in February, referring to the fourth quarter of 2011, Apple maintained the world's first position in the portable PC segment in the first quarter of 2012 according to a survey released today by NPD DisplaySearch.

Apple recorded an annual growth of 118%, reaching 17.2 million units with 80% of its sales in the segment being comprised by iPads.

Although Ma has more than twice as many market share of the global second place, Hewlett-Packard (HP), this leads in the table that only considers notebooks and “mini-notes”. As Apple “s” sold 3.6 million MacBooks, it didn't even enter the Top 5.

The total of “portable PCs” (as considered by NPD DisplaySearch) shipped in the period was 76.2 million units 30% more since last year, but 15% less than the fourth quarter of 2011.
