I know few MacBook Pro owners who give a good use to the ExpressCard slot that comes with them. I imagine that this has weighed heavily on Apple in the initiative of exchanging it for the entry to SD cards in the models of 13 and 15 inches, but for those who have their good model of 17 inches there are good accessories in the market to give value to this connection. A very interesting complement has just entered this list: it is the GlobeTrotter Express 441, a 3G modem designed to work anywhere on the planet.

The modem supports 850, 900 and 2,100MHz HSPA connections, with speeds of 7.2Mbps for download and 5.6Mbps for upload. In addition, it supports operation on EDGE and GPRS networks of 850, 900, 1,800 and 1,900MHz. To improve the quality of the received signal, it features a retractable antenna and fits very well in the slots that Apple included in its laptops.
Along with the accessory, comes a configuration utility to adjust the necessary settings that will make it work with your local operator. When you connect it for the first time, the application is automatically installed on your Mac. Both are compatible with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11, Leopard 10.5.6 or higher.
