“Nova” Apple TV is 4mm smaller and, according to the website, comes equipped with the A5X processor [atualizado: esclarecimento da Apple]

Along with the launch of iOS 6.1 and Apple TV Software Update 5.2, we saw the appearance of a new model of Apple TV (AppleTV3,2). Because the Engadget downloaded some documents from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC, ANATEL in the United States) and discovered information about the new set-top box of Ma.

Apple TV (AppleTV3,2)

As we can see in the image above, the “new” Apple TV is very similar to the current one, only even smaller: 93.7mm versus 98mm, the difference is ridiculously small and many would probably not even notice it! The documents do not contain much other information, only that it is the model A1469, that it has the same Wi-Fi capabilities as the current generation and that it has the Broadcom BCM4334 wireless chip, which receives FM radio waves.

The novelty, however, was due to a statement by the AnandTech. According to them, the new Apple TV comes equipped with the A5X (S5L8947) chip instead of the A5, which would increase the black box's processing power a little more.

It remains to be seen what will be Apple's plans to launch this silent update.

Update

An Apple spokesman spoke to The Verge about this “new” Apple TV:

Sometimes we make component changes that require an updated model number for regulatory approval. The component changes we made (on AppleTV3,2) do not affect the product's features and Apple TV customers will continue to have the same usage experience.

Also according to the website, the Apple TV design will remain exactly the same as it will not have the aforementioned 4mm reduction. However, the set-top box yes, receive some internal modifications as possibly the A5X processor as the spokesperson has made clear.

About the complaints of some readers about the update, a very quick message: when you go to buy a product, buy for what it is today and not for what it may be in the future. Stop thinking you * need * the latest model.

The arrival of a “new” Apple TV does not change anything for those who have the second or third generation of set-top box. All those features that made you buy the product are still there, in the same place!
