New research shows iOS advances in the smartphone market

We recently commented on a CIRP survey on the increase in the number of Apple devices that have been activated in the United States and the consequent decrease in activations of Android devices in the country. However, according to a new survey conducted by Kantar, the global scenario of the smartphone market remains hot for the main platforms in the world, even during a period without major launches.

Overall, the survey results show the good expressiveness of Apple, which has advanced in six markets around the world, against four recessions during the last quarter (ending last June). In part, this performance by Ma was thanks to the spectrum of devices and prices of the iPhones currently on sale, ranging from $ 350 for the iPhone SE to $ 1,000 for the iPhone X.

In the USA, sales of iOS devices grew 5.9%, increasing the share of the company's sales in the country to 38.7%.

IOS showed the best performance in the USA, where Apple's market share increased by 5.9%, reaching 38.7%. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus lead the sales, accounting for almost one in five smartphones sold, while the iPhone X was the fourth best-selling device during the period. Samsung and LG felt Apple's breakthrough, with sales declining throughout the year.

However, the Cupertino giant has lost space to Android in important markets such as China and Japan. In the first, the drop was 2% and now Apple retains 19.4% of the Chinese market where Android covers approximately 80.4%.

Even with the drop in sales of iOS devices in the Asian territory, the iPhone X remained the best-selling smartphone in China, representing 5.3% of all devices sold during this period and becoming the gadget best-selling in the country every month since its launch last November.

In some European countries, Apple's share of the smartphone market grew by 1.3% during the same period. In Germany, growth was 2.8%, in France 4.2% and in Spain 3.8%. On the other side of the globe, in Australia, the expansion was slightly lower, of approximately 0.5%.

Kantar table with the smartphone market

As highlighted by the MacRumors, this year Apple did not launch or even update the line of iPhones, unlike it did in previous years with the launch of the iPhone SE in 2016 and greater storage options in 2017. Therefore, it is interesting to note how Ma managed to boost the sale of smartphones in various markets without a new product; we only had the arrival of the (PRODUCT) RED version of the iPhones 8/8 Plus.
