New year, new iPhone – even though we are more than a semester away from him, this is a truth that no one will dispute. It is also difficult to deny that, every day, the rumored machine related to the infamous “IPhone 8” it gains strength. Today, we have a few more pointers about the next (or… the next?) Apple smartphone, courtesy of the analyst Timothy Arcuri Cowen & Company in a report obtained by the AppleInsider.
The main novelty that Arcuri brings in relation to the rumors that we already know is a sensor, combining lasers and infrared, for facial and / or gesture recognition. There is not much information about what the function of a technology like this would be, only that it would be positioned on the top of the device, next to the front camera.
All these components, as well as the Touch ID (by means of an optical technology) and all the other front sensors, would be embedded behind the device’s screen which, corroborating previous rumors, would be a curved and 5.8-inch AMOLED display. without borders. An interesting detail ventilated by Arcuri notes that, although the screen occupies the entire front portion of the device, we would not have 100% of the usable / touch sensitive surface: the “active” area would be around 5.1 or 5.2 inches , smaller than what we currently have on the iPhone 7 Plus. According to the analyst, this iPhone model would also gain the long-awaited wireless charging technology – although it does not specify the type.
Finally, says the analyst – echoing several other rumors previously exposed – this specific model of the iPhone would be just one of three to be presented in the second half. The other two would be updated versions of the iPhones 7 and 7 Plus, while the “IPhone X” (this is how Arcuri refers to this version, for now) it would be the most expensive, sophisticated and full of cutting-edge technologies, to celebrate the ten years since the first Apple smartphone was launched.
With this new line, says the analyst, the announcement of the new iPhones this year would be much more attractive than in the previous ones and would bring a series of new fans to Apple smartphones, as well as hordes of old users updating their devices.
It will be? Even if this analyst’s track record doesn’t give him credibility trucks (because it’s almost nonexistent)… well, you can’t deny that “iPhone X” is a pretty name sexy. Let’s wait and see.
