Western Digital today announced the launch of two new Scorpio Blue hard drives for notebooks, which for the first time exceed the 500GB mark. There are two models: one 750GB and another 1TB, each storing 333GB of data per internal layer.
Despite being said to be "portable", the drives are 12.5 millimeters high and therefore do not fit on the vast majority of laptops. Its design, however, can be quite useful for external drives, in which such extra space is highly valued.
The new Scorpio Blue hard drives have shock protection technology (ShockGuard) and mechanisms for quiet work (WhisperDrive). Both connect via SATA and SATA II interfaces, providing high performance with 3Gbps data transfer rate.
WD has set suggested prices of $ 190 and $ 250, respectively, for the 750GB and 1TB versions with a three-year warranty. The company is expected to announce soon about 9.5mm models for thinner notebooks.
