New iPhone Short Films Highlights Whale Shark Protection Initiative

Apple seems to have taken a liking to the series of iPhone filmed short films. By 2019, we had “The Lonely Palm, Samoa” and “Hello, Cuban”; Now, one more title comes to join the previous ones: “The Reef, Maldives”.

The short film, directed by Sven Dreesbach, features beautiful underwater images of animals and researchers from Maldives Whale Shark Research Program (MWSRP, the Whale Shark Research Program). The nonprofit group uses its own iOS app to monitor the demographics and movement of various marine species, whale sharks among them, to define community-focused preservation strategies and sustainability.

According to Apple, the short was entirely shot with an iPhone XS with the help of AxisGo Water Housing, to protect the device from seawater, and Freefly Movi Cinema Robot, to stabilize the images. In the software field, the app chosen to tackle the task was FiLMiC Pro.

Very beautiful, isn't it? Ah, to those who are interested, the MWRSP app can be downloaded here.
