New indoor maps for airports and shopping malls are added to Apple Maps

Indoor maps are a feature made available with iOS 11 through the Apple Maps that allow the user to move around and find locations within airports and shopping centers, such as stores, security, elevators, food courts, etc. more easily.

Apple indoor maps

Since implementing the feature, Apple has been working to expand its availability. It has recently been added to five new airports around the world:

  • Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, in North Carolina (USA);
  • Sydney International Airport, in New South Wales (Australia);
  • Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, in Montreal (Canada);
  • Jean Lesage airport in Qubec (Canada);
  • Taoyuan International Airport, in Taoyuan (Taiwan).

In addition, Ma also made available new internal maps of shopping centers in the cities of Dallas and Houston (in Texas, USA) and the Trinity Leeds shopping center (in England).

With the new locations, indoor airport maps are available at more than 40 of the largest airports in the world, while shopping mall maps are restricted to only a few cities in the US and Europe. On the Apple website for the availability of iOS resources, it is possible to check the list of airports and cities that have the internal map service in shopping malls.

Public transportation routes in North Carolina

In addition to expanding internal maps, Apple also made public transport navigation available in the US state of North Carolina. Options include buses and trains in the Charlotte area and several bus routes elsewhere in the state.

In addition, other regions of the state of California have also received support for several transit routes on Apple Maps, including the cities of Fresno, San Francisco, San Diego and others.
