New Google Home and Chromecast Ultra could be revealed in July

Successors for Google Home and Chromecast Ultra to be announced at a virtual event on July 8

This Tuesday (30) Google announced that it is preparing a virtual event Hey Google, which will be focused on the company's line of smart devices. The expectation that in this event the successor of the Google Home, a device whose existence has been circulating for months among rumors behind the scenes.

This Hey Google event, which takes place on July 8, will be a virtual replacement for the traditional Google I / O, which this year will not occur due to the new coronavirus pandemic, and Google has already warned that it will present many new features to developers of applications for smart home appliances.

Although the event is focused on presenting news to developers, the company has already warned that it will take advantage of it to reveal some of its latest innovations in smart products for the home, and precisely this warning that we can wait for the announcement of new equipment that gives more credibility to rumors that a successor to the Google Home really is close to being revealed.

Google Home Smart speakers are also part of the hardware line made by Google

Rumors about a month ago Google Home 2 already circulating behind the scenes, and everything took a lot more off when, in June, the 9to5Google website stated that, after talking to sources inside Google, it said that this successor to Google Home is not just something real as it would occupy an intermediate position between the current Google Home and Google Home Max (which is not only the biggest smart speaker from Google, but also the best in terms of sound quality).

Despite rumors calling this device Google Home 2, its official name is still a mystery, and there are those who bet that it should actually be called Google Nest Home. This is because, in recent years, Google has placed almost all of its smart devices under the Google Nest brand, as a way of making it clear that if all these different devices can connect with each other. So it wouldn't be absurd to imagine that the company's next smart speaker is also released under the same nickname.

New Google Home and new Chromecast?

In addition to the announcement of the successor to Google Home, this July 8 event is also expected to be used to officially present the new version of the Chromecast, a device whose rumors have also been circulating behind the scenes for a few months.

Since April there has been talk about the possibility that Google is developing a new Chromecast Ultra, which would already come from the factory with support for Android TV and a remote control, thus being the first of the entire Chromecast line to have such an accessory. The idea of having its own control would make this device quite different from other Google dongles, and would put this new Chromecast in a category similar to Amazon's Fire TV Stick.

In the beginning of June, the XDA Developers website released some renderings of what should be this new Chromecast Ultra, which is being developed within Google under the pseudonym “Sabrina”. These images are supposed to be official, taken from the device's marketing material, which shows that the design itself should not be so different from the one used in the current version of the model, and the main point of differentiation should even be the presence of a remote control. in the new version.

As for performance, it is known that it should use an SoC (chip that groups the processor and other systems necessary for the operation of an electronic device in the same component) from Amlogic that would support the Dolby Vision, which would make this device provide even better playback quality than the 4K HDR10 of the current Chromecast Ultra.

For now, neither the successor to the Google Home and neither the new Chromecast Ultra has been confirmed by Google, and the expectation that both will be officially announced at the July 8 event. And, if you can't follow the event live, just stay tuned here at Showmetech and we will bring you all the news as soon as they are announced.
