Sort of by surprise (or not), Apple launched two new models of the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. This second came to fill a vacuum in the line, since the Pro’s previous entry model was still sold with outdated processors (and without the Touch Bar, which may or may not be an advantage for you). The good news is that the gains of the new generation are quite interesting.
As you noticed MacRumors, the benchmarks of the new entry-level MacBook Pro, equipped with the processor Intel Core i5-8257U of four cores, have already been registered in the Geekbench. And the numbers do not lie: analyzing the multi-core performance, the new machine can perform up to 83.4% superior to its predecessor, which was equipped with a Core i5 processor dual-core.
In the multi-core score, the previous generation of the incoming MacBook Pro scored 9,084 points, while the new model reached 16,665. The gains in the single-core comparison, meanwhile, were more discreet: 4,341 against 4,639 in the new generation – gain of approximately 6.8%.
Here’s the scoop on the new baseline 13 “MacBook Pro CPU: Intel Core i5-8257U ?
What’s interesting is even in single core performance the 1.4 GHz base clock outperforms previous gen. Multi-Core is impressive too for $ 1,299? pic.twitter.com/rAuJxG1gJ5

Here’s the hole on the CPU for the new 13-inch MacBook Pro input: Intel Core i5-8257U. ?
The most interesting thing is that even in single-core performance the clock base, 1.4GHz, surpasses the previous generation. The multi-core score is also impressive for $ 1,299. ?
The new entry-level MacBook Pro can also be configured with a superior processor, a Core i7 as well quad-core 1.7GHz. This model has, so far, only registered in the Geekbench, with scores of 4,835 and 15,515, respectively – but we need to wait for more tests to reach a definitive average of its performance.
As I always like to note in these articles, the coolness of the numbers is not always representative of the improvements of a machine. The real performance gains of the new MacBooks Pro can only be really felt by their buyers, and will depend on their usage patterns, applications used and many other factors. Still, the numbers can give you a good idea of what’s to come – and in this case, the prospects are encouraging.
